As long as football has existed – the never ending debate of what optimal style football or soccer should be played. We have in recent years been charmed by how Barcelona has stamped their brand of soccer out there, with a passing-orientated philosophy – which has affected the world of football in so many ways – since it’s been viewed upon as the winning formula.
A few decades earlier the discussions went rampant between two philosophies; the long and direct ball forward and which was founded on a fact that most of the goals who were scored was done after only 3 passes. The other philosophy has a certain alignment to the spanish Tiki-Taka, meaning shorter passes and to build up more patiently.
To quote the famous Liverpool-manager Bob Paisley who made the quote:
It’s not about the long or the short ball – it’s only about the right ball.
The most interesting is the fact that ”the right ball” is timeless and not owned by anyone – club or country. This is something which is up to us coaches to find when we develop and educate our players.
It’s about finding the right pass in all the complex situations that occurs during a game. The right ball is governed and ruled by that the game is directional and other principles which we are all servants under.
But we’re also entitled and by our own right to interpret the game completely differently
Find your own right pass!
