Game Insight is the ability to read the game and predict situations that might arise. While watching the best teams play, their simplification of decisions can be mesmerizing. A rare mistake can catch us by surprise.
However, while working with our own individual team to develop these ”simple things” – it can prove to be difficult. The saying about game insight is ”It might look simple – but it ain’t easy”.
So what’s the secret about game insight? How can you teach and develop your players to read the game and predict the next action of play? A basic factor is experience, experience of the number of situations that occur throughout the game. An example of this, is an experienced player who always seems to be in the right place at the right time- standing in the right space when a certain situation arises – this, despite that the player may have dropped in his physical levels due to age. The answer is simple – experience of situations and being able to predict what will arise in the next situation that follows. A bigger bank of experience equals a better game insight.
